Hans-Christian Schmid

Hans-Christian Schmid (born in Altötting in 1965) studied documentary filmmaking at the HFF in Munich from 1985 to 1992. He was a fellow of the Munich Screenwriting Workshop, and subsequently took up studies in screenwriting at UCLA. He made his debut as a feature film director in 1995 with ”It’s a Jungle out There“, which featured talented newcomer Franka Potente in the leading role. His film ”Distant Lights“ was screened at the Bratislava IFF 2004 in the Off the Mainstream section and ”Requiem“ - which won the FIPRESCI Award and the Silver Bear for Best Actress (Sandra Hüller) at the Berlinale 2006 – was included in the Made in Europe section two years later.
